Closer to our Efficiency Project Goal
We are now nearly two years into the Efficiency Project, and I’m pleased to report that we are 89 percent of the way toward meeting the core commitment of that initiative.
As you may recall, we launched the Efficiency Project in August 2013 in order to create a more focused and sustainable district. We committed to find operational efficiencies that would improve our bottom line by $4.5 million over a four-year period without having a negative impact on the student experience. This commitment, along with the budget cuts that followed the failure of the 2012 levy request, enabled us to lower the millage rate of the 2013 levy request and extend those funds for an additional year.
As of today, we have put into place more than $4 million worth of efficiency measures. One of the biggest changes was moving to a self-insured model for medical coverage. Other factors include a reduction in staff positions, renegotiating the contract for athletic training services and implementing shared services with the city and library just to name a few. You can find a detailed list of the efficiency measures on our website at www.uaschools.org/efficiency.
