Bonnie Pryor What is your connection to Ohio? I was born in California and raised in Washington State. But Ohio has been my home for over 30 years. What inspired you to become an author or illustrator? I really didn't think about writing when I was young, although I always loved books. I am kind of a hard-headed practical person and writing seemed like an impossible dream. I finally reached the point in my life where writing was kind of a wistful dream, but it took several nudges from my husband to get me started. What advice do you have for a young author or illustrator? My advice to young writers is always the same. READ! READ! READ! Don't get stuck in a rut reading all the same things. Read a variety of different writers and when you find something that you like, slow down and think about how the writer did it. Another suggestion is to spend a lot of time observing people and listening to them. Think about why people do the things they do. What do you like to do for fun? I still read a lot. I also like to garden. We live in the country and I enjoy walking in our woods and watching wild life. Some of your most popular books are:
