Ohio Authors and Illustrators for Young People Home Page

Welcome to Ohio Authors and Illustrators for Young People. To celebrate Ohio's Bicentennial we, the library media specialists of Upper Arlington City School District, have created this web site of Ohio authors and illustrators. Here you will find information we have collected from and about Ohio's authors and illustrators whose works are most commonly used in kindergarten through twelfth grade classrooms.

Most of the information was collected during 2001 and 2002. Each author, illustrator or their publisher was contacted and asked to complete a standard one page questionnaire. The questionnaire included the following:

1. What is your connection to Ohio?
2. What inspired you to become an author or illustrator?
3. What advice do you have for a young author or illustrator?
4. What do you like to do for fun?

Many of those contacted responded. For those who did not we attempted to provide Internet links. For more information on Ohio authors and illustrators contact Ruth Metcalf (rmetcalf@sloma.state.oh.us) of the State Library of Ohio.

In December of 2002 lists of the authors' and illustrators' most popular books were added.

In April of 2003 maps showing Ohio cities affiliated with the authors and illustrators were added.

In honor of Ohio's Bicentennial, Authors, Illustrators, LITERARY OHIO! a 40 minute video is available. The video was made on location in Ohio the summer of 2003 and includes many well-known authors and illustrators as well as newcomers.
