Sara Holbrook

What is your connection to Ohio?

I have been a resident of Ohio for over 20 years.

What inspired you to become an author or illustrator?

I was writing poetry for my children as a hobby and then was able to turn my hobby into a job. Not sure why I started writing the poetry in the first place -- to connect with them, I guess.

What advice do you have for a young author or illustrator?

My advice for a young author or illustrator is to read as much as they possibly can. The more we read the better our skills become.

What do you like to do for fun?

For fun I like to read, walk on the beach and cook for friends.

Some of your most popular books are:

  • Wham! It's a Poetry Jam: Discovering Performance Poetry (2002)
  • Isn't She Ladylike? (2002)
  • Walking on the Boundaries of Change: Poems of Transition (1998)
  • Chicks Up Front : Poems (1998)
  • What's So Big About Cleveland, Ohio? (1998)
  • Am I Naturally This Crazy? Poems (1996)
  • The Dog Ate My Homework: Poems (1996)
  • I Never Said it Wasn't Difficult: Poems (1996)
  • Which Way to the Dragon! Poems for Coming-on-Strong (1996)
  • Making Me Feel Real: and Other Poems (1995)
  • Nothing's the End of the World: Poems (1995)
