Ron Himler

What is your connection to Ohio?

I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio.

What inspired you to become an author and an illustrator?

Art was always a part of my life. As I became older it was logical to see if I could find a way to make a living doing something I loved.

What advice do you have for a young author or illustrator?

If you love what you do--persist! Explore all available avenues. Do not take rejection personally. There are many, many reasons why a work may not get published. It is a business after all.

What do you do for fun?

Art, for me, is my whole life and I would include it in my definition of fun.

Some of your most popular books are:

  • Wake Up Jeremiah (1979)
  • The Log Cabin Church (2002)
  • Baby, Come Out! (2002)
  • By the Light of the Captured Moon (2001)
  • The Caged Birds of Phnom Penh (2001)
  • A Thanksgiving Turkey (2001)
  • The Wall (2001)
  • Log Cabin Christmas (2000)
  • William Penn, Founder of Pennsylvania (2000)
  • Voices of the Alamo (2000)
  • Katie's Trunk (1997)
