Allan W. Eckert What is your connection to Ohio? My connection with Ohio is that I have lived here (in Dayton, Columbus, Cincinnati and Bellefontaine) for a total of 33 years and have written numerous books about Ohio's frontier history. What inspired you to become an author or illustrator? What inspired me to become an author was an innate drive to be just that. I cannot remember a time in my life, even in my very earliest years, when I was not writing and wanting desperately to become a published author... which, as you know, eventually occurred (after 12 years of no sales and 1,147 rejection slips before selling my first piece.) What advice do you have for a young author or illustrator? I would advise young would-be authors or illustrators to have confidence in their own abilities (which they should always, unfailingly attempt to improve) and to have the tenacity to keep on trying, even in the face of repeated rejection. What do you like to do for fun? What I like to do for fun is write, which is why I'm a writer, but I also like to go on scientific expeditions, study and collect scientific specimens, mine for gem crystals and then cut and polish them into fine gemstones. Some of your most popular books are:
