Lynda Durrant What is your connection to Ohio? I was born in Cleveland. We moved to Virginia when I was still a toddler. My family and I moved back to Ohio when I was starting the first grade. What inspired you to become an author or illustrator? I have always enjoyed reading novels. They are my windows to the world. Novels help me understand why people do the things they do. What advice do you have for a young author or illustrator? My advice to young authors is to read, read, read! Why do you like your favorites? Why do you like, for example, historic fiction over science fiction? Or non-fiction over poetry? Try your hand at writing your own version of your favorite genre. It also helps to keep a journal or diary. Get into the habit of writing every day. Writing is like anything else--piano, soccer, and karate--the more you do it, the better you become. What do you like to do for fun? I ski in the winter and I ride my horse and swim in the spring, summer and fall. At any moment I've got two or three books I'm reading for pleasure. Some of your most popular books are:
