Doug Cushman What is your connection to Ohio? I was born in Springfield, Ohio, then moved to Columbus when I was in third grade. We moved to CT when I was 12. I still have an aunt and uncle living in Springfield. What inspired you to become an author or illustrator? I grew up drawing pictures and writing books. I've always done it. No "inspiration", it's always been a part of me like breathing or eating. What advice do you have for a young author or illustrator? My only advice to any young writer is to do something (or write or draw something) that you LOVE. That way you are almost guaranteed to succeed. This business is too hard, too competitive for anyone who only wants to work "for the money" or to give only a halfhearted effort. What do you like to do for fun? As to what I like to do for fun: well, I love drawing and painting! I like to cook also. I'm also living out a small dream I've had. I'm in Paris right now, working and living. My wife and I have an opportunity to be here for a year. I've been here since September and it's been great.. Some of your most popular books are:
