David Citino What is your connection to Ohio? I was born in Cleveland and have lived all my life in Ohio: in Athens (I was an undergraduate student at Ohio University), Columbus (I did my graduate study at Ohio State), Marion (I taught at the Marion Campus of OSU for 11 years), Westerville (when I came to teach at the Columbus campus in 198, and now Upper Arlington. Ohio appears often in my writing, poetry and prose. Writers write what they know. I've been fortunate to have learned things about my home state and her people. What inspired you to become an author or illustrator? All my life I've loved to read and write. Even though I was athletic as a child, a football and baseball player in high school, writing and reading were my primary ways of being in and dealing with the world. I received invaluable direction and support from my parents, and now from my wife and children. What advice do you have for a young author or illustrator? I'd advise the young author to read widely, everything from great literature to newspapers, and to use his or her teachers as a powerful source of information. What do you like to do for fun? For fun, I enjoy being with my family. And I like to read and write. I'm fortunate because my "job" is so much fun to me. Some of your most popular books are:
